How Case Conversion Works
Title Case and "Minor Words"
Title Case capitalizes the first letter of every major word but leaves short function words — articles ("a", "the"), coordinating conjunctions ("and", "or"), and short prepositions ("of", "in", "to") — lowercase, unless one of them is the very first or last word of the text. This follows the same convention style guides like AP and Chicago use for headlines and titles, e.g. "A Tale of Two Cities" (not "A Tale Of Two Cities").
Sentence Case Limitations
Sentence case capitalizes the first letter after every period, question mark, or exclamation point, and lowercases everything else. It cannot tell the difference between a proper noun and an ordinary word, so a name like "paris" or "john" will stay lowercase unless you capitalize it by hand afterward — the same limitation every automated sentence-case tool has.
Normalizing Whitespace
Pasted text — especially from PDFs, emails, or other documents — often carries extra spaces, tabs, or line breaks. The normalize formats collapse any run of whitespace down to a single space (or, for the double-space format, two spaces after sentence-ending punctuation, a convention some formal typing styles still use), without altering the letters or punctuation.
