What is a Dice Roller?
A dice roller is a digital substitute for physical dice — useful when you don't have the right die on hand, want to roll a large or unusual number of dice at once (like eight ten-sided dice for a damage roll), or just want a quick, fair way to make a decision. Each roll uses your browser's random number generator to pick a value uniformly between 1 and the die's number of sides, exactly the way a fair physical die would behave over many rolls.

How Random Dice Rolls Work
Each die roll is generated independently using a uniform random number generator, meaning every face has exactly the same probability of appearing: 1 in N for an N-sided die. For a single d6, that's a 1-in-6 (about 16.7%) chance for any given face. Rolling multiple dice at once doesn't change any individual die's odds — each die is still an independent, uniformly random event, even though the combined total behaves differently.
Why Multi-Dice Totals Aren't Uniform
While each individual die is uniformly random, the sum of multiple dice is not. Rolling two six-sided dice (2d6), for example, produces a triangular distribution: there's only one way to roll a 2 (1+1) or a 12 (6+6), but six different ways to roll a 7 (1+6, 2+5, 3+4, 4+3, 5+2, 6+1) — making 7 six times more likely than either extreme. This is why games that use 2d6 tend to produce more "average" outcomes than games using a single d12, even though both have the same range of possible totals.

The d20 is the signature die of games like Dungeons & Dragons, typically used for attack rolls, skill checks, and saving throws against a target number. Smaller dice like d4, d6, d8, d10, and d12 are common for rolling damage, while d100 (often rolled as two d10s — one for tens, one for ones) is used for percentile-based systems, like determining a rare item drop or a critical success on a skill check.
