Basic Calculator
A simple, everyday calculator for addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages — computed instantly in your browser, with memory keys and a running history.
Results from this calculator are estimates provided for general informational purposes only, based on formulas, rates, and standards commonly accepted as of 2026. Figures may differ slightly from other calculators or professional sources due to rounding methods, differing assumptions, or regional regulations, and rules may change over time. Always consult a qualified professional — such as a financial advisor, healthcare provider, or other relevant specialist — before making decisions based on these results.

What is a Basic Calculator?
A basic calculator handles the four fundamental arithmetic operations — addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division — plus everyday extras like percentages, sign changes, and memory storage. It's the digital equivalent of the simple handheld calculator found in every kitchen drawer and desk, built for quick everyday math rather than scientific or engineering calculations.
This calculator supports chained operations (like 12 + 8 × 2), percentage calculations, sign flipping, and memory keys (MC, MR, M+, M−) to store and recall a value across multiple calculations — along with a running history of your last several results.
How to Use This Calculator
Enter numbers using the digit buttons or your keyboard, then press an operator (+, −, ×, ÷) followed by the next number, and press = to see the result. For chained calculations like 5 + 3 × 2, each operator is applied against the running total in the order you press them (left to right), not standard order of operations — so 5 + 3 × 2 on this calculator computes (5 + 3) × 2 = 16, the same way a simple physical calculator works.
Using Percentages (%)
The percent key behaves differently depending on context. Pressing % right after a single number converts it to a decimal fraction (50 → 0.5). Pressing % after setting up an operation — for example, 200 + 10% — computes 10% of 200 (which is 20) and applies it, giving 220. This mirrors how percent keys work on most physical calculators.
Memory Keys (MC, MR, M+, M−)
Memory keys let you park one number aside while you do other calculations: M+ adds the current display to memory, M− subtracts it from memory, MR recalls the stored value to the display, and MC clears memory back to zero. The "M" indicator lights up whenever memory holds a nonzero value.
Sample Calculations
125 + 375
Enter 125, press +, enter 375, press =.
200 + 15%
Enter 200, press +, enter 15, press %, press =.
84 ÷ 4
Enter 84, press ÷, enter 4, press =.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this calculator follow order of operations (PEMDAS)?
No — like most simple physical calculators, it evaluates left to right as you press keys, rather than applying multiplication/division before addition/subtraction. For full order-of-operations and expression support, use the Scientific Calculator.
Can I use my keyboard instead of clicking buttons?
Yes — number keys, the four operator keys, Enter (=), Escape (clear), and Backspace all work directly from your keyboard.
Is my calculation history saved anywhere?
No — the history list only exists in your current browser tab and disappears when you refresh or leave the page. Nothing is sent to or stored on a server.
What's the difference between this and the Scientific Calculator?
This Basic Calculator covers the four arithmetic operations plus percentages — ideal for everyday math. The Scientific Calculator adds trigonometry, logarithms, exponents, roots, and proper order-of-operations expression evaluation for more advanced work.
